Jesse is a former student of Walter White’s at Wynne High School. He is now a producer (and occasional user) of meth, known in the area as “Cap’n Cook.”
Walter reaches out to Jesse and essentially threatens to turn him in to the DEA if he goes along with his get-rich-quick scheme to make meth. This paves the way for a classic Odd Couple dynamic as the conservative middle-aged teacher is thrust into a partnership with an irresponsible, burn-out criminal.
Jesse is the classic underachiever. He clearly possesses talents, but is lacking dramatically when it comes to common sense and follow-through.
Jesse grew up in a somewhat privileged home, the oldest child of an upper middle class Albuquerque family. Jesse was ultimately kicked out of his home due to repeated drug use. His loves his brother, who in stark contrast to Jesse is a supremely successful student.
